Our dedicated 100% natural gas engines are manufactured by Cummins and available as a factory-direct option from leading truck and bus manufacturers (OEMs).

Cummins Westport was formed in 2001 as a 50:50 joint venture between Cummins Inc. and Westport Innovations. Cummins Westport has approximately 80 employees. Engineering and customer support staff are located in Columbus, IN. Sales, marketing, and management staff are based in the USA and Canada.

Natural gas: clean, renewable energy

Natural gas, or methane, is one of the cleanest, safest and most useful forms of energy. It has a number of distinct advantages:

  • Simple chemical make-up: one atom of carbon and four atoms of hydrogen (CH4).
  • Burns cleanly: with the highest hydrogen-to-carbon ratio of any hydrocarbon, natural gas produces less greenhouse gases and particulate matter (i.e. soot).

Dedicated natural gas engines

Cummins Westport engines range from 5.9 to 11.9 liters with 195 hp [145 kW] to 400 hp [298 kW].

North America

  • The 250-320 hp ISL G for applications such as transit and school bus, and medium and heavy duty truck applications, including refuse, recycling, sweeper, mixer, dump truck and other vocational applications.
  • The ISX12 G is designed for regional haul truck / tractor, vocational, and refuse applications.  The ISX12 G offers a range of ratings from 320 to 400 hp and 1,450 lb-ft torque, optional engine brake, and manual and automatic transmission.

Outside of North America

  • The C Gas Plus and B Gas Plus for applications such as transit, bus and medium duty trucks.

Cummins Westport engines are designed to operate on natural gas or renewable natural gas (RNG) or Biomethane that is stored on the vehicle as compressed natural gas (CNG), or liquefied natural gas (LNG). 

Based on Cummins' proven and reliable diesel platforms, Cummins Westport engines are built in the same manufacturing plants that manufacture Cummins diesel engines. They are available factory-direct from leading truck and bus manufacturers worldwide.
